Overview

The Public Affairs Section leads U.S. public diplomacy efforts in Australia. Public diplomacy is the conduct of foreign relations directly with the average citizen of a country, rather than with officials of a country’s foreign ministry. The aim is to further U.S. policy goals in Australia and the region and to increase mutual understanding through people-to-people engagement.  The Public Affairs Section has offices in Canberra, SydneyMelbourne, and Perth; each office has a media team and a cultural affairs team.

The Public Affairs Section facilitates U.S. educational advising for individuals interested in U.S. study options.  Advisors can provide guidance, information, and support on institutions and scholarships. An alumni network is open to all alumni of U.S. government exchange programs, including Fulbright, the International Visitor Leadership Program, and the Summer Work Travel program.
