U.S. Passport Cards

The U.S. passport card may only be used for international travel by land or sea between the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The passport card cannot be used for international travel by air. 

 

If applying for a U.S. passport card in conjunction with a U.S. passport book please note the following:

  • Processing times for passport card applications submitted outside the U.S. can take approximately 4-6 weeks.
  • An additional self addressed Express Post envelope is required for the mailing of your U.S. passport card.

If you apply for both the passport book and passport card you will receive two separate mailings. The first mailing will contain the passport book as this only takes 10-15 business days to process. The second mailing will contain your passport card, which can take 4-6 weeks to process.

If an application is received for a passport book and passport card but only one envelope is provided, the Consulate General will hold mailing out the issued U.S. passport book until the passport card is also processed.
