Making a difference with Young Pacific Leaders 2018

Young Pacific Leaders 2018 (#YPL18) brought together 37 dynamic community leaders from across the Pacific Ocean in a conference about leadership and development. It was the fifth conference in a series of programs sponsored by the U.S. State Department.

The program comprised formal and informal activities arranged by the East-West Center’s Pacific Islands Development Program in a variety of settings on the islands of Oahu and Hawai’i. The group engaged with organizations across education, agriculture, aquaculture, government, and cultural sectors to learn about and discuss regional issues and how to advance them.

To continue the linkages now established among these Pacific citizens, alumni of the conferences are eligible for small grants to support projects that make a positive impact in their communities. Themes for those projects include Education; Environment and Resource Management; Civic Leadership; and Economic and Social Development.
