Overseas Seasonal Hire Program (OSHP) Sydney

The U.S. Consulate General in Sydney is seeking students for the Overseas Seasonal Hire Program to work in the Consulate.

WORK HOURS: To be determined (due to budgetary constraints participants may only be offered part-time work)

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
We will be offering Eligible Family Member (EFM) high school and college students, aged 16-21, the opportunity to work at the U.S. Consulate General in Sydney through the Overseas Seasonal Hire Program (OSHP). The OSHP is designed to facilitate the employment of students and to provide clerical and administrative support to the Mission during the U.S. summer vacation season.

EMPLOYMENT DATES
The OSHP is available from June 1, 2021, pending security clearance, to September 24, 2021. Exact dates and length of program will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate(s). To be eligible for consideration in the program, applicants must be available to work for a minimum of two (2) consecutive weeks during that timeframe.

SALARY
All salary payments will be made electronically by direct deposit (EFT), and students will need a bank account in their own name (a joint account with a parent is acceptable). As a matter of equity and fairness, the Department has established standard rates of pay for the OSHP. Much of the work to be performed is of a routine clerical nature, and post will employ OSHP on the 2021 FS Extended Salary Scale pay schedule (based on a full-time, 40-hour work week) restricted to the FP-EE/1 (minimum wage) through FP-AA levels.
The minimum qualification requirements for each level are:
(1) FP-EE: High school student – $7.25/hour
(2) FP-DD: High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or three months of clerical work experience – $9.46/hour
(3) FP-CC: Meet FP-DD criteria plus 1 year of college, or 6 months of clerical work experience – $10.63/hour
(4) FP-BB: Meet FP-DD criteria plus 2 years of college, or 1 year of clerical work experience – $11.60/hour and
(5) FP-AA: Meet FP-DD criteria plus 3 years of college, or more than 1 year of clerical – $13.03/hour

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to participate in the OSHP, applicants must meet ALL the following requirements:
(1) Applicant must either:

 Meet the definition of EFM child, as set forth in 3 FAM 7120 or
 Be a child undertaking the travel for which a U.S. government employee is authorized to receive an Educational Travel Allowance, as set forth in DSSR 280, if that child were to undertake study at a school away from post

Except that in all cases, the applicant must be at least 16 years of age prior to beginning employment at post.
AND
(2) Student Status: Must be a full-time or part-time student currently enrolled in a course of study at a high school, college, university, or other educational institution, including on-line. Upon request, applicants must be able to present documentation confirming their student status. Student status does not cease during the break between school years if the break does not exceed twelve (12) months and if the applicant can produce documentation of enrollment for a course of study at a high school, college, university, or other educational institution, including on-line, which will begin immediately after the break.
AND
(3) A U.S. government employee is not receiving a Voluntary or Involuntary Separate Maintenance Allowance (VSMA/ISMA) to assist with expenses for the applicant.
NOTE: Under the OSHP, employees are only eligible to work at the U.S. mission abroad where their sponsoring employee is assigned (not TDY).

SELECTION PROCESS
The Regional Human Resources Officer will match applicants to a position that most closely suits their interests and background.

Community Liaison Office Assistant
Duties include: Assist with writing and publishing the Sydney Stickybeak newsletter; help plan and host community events; and research and prepare administrative tasks as needed.

Overseas Building Operations Assistant
Duties include: Assist in engineering inspections, document construction activities, organizing contract documents and assisting the office manager with procurement, ordering of office supplies and the coordination of day-to-day office operations.

Mail Assistant
Duties include: Assist with unclassified mailroom activities under the supervision of the mail clerk: collect and process mail, security screen mail, as necessary, distribute mail to customers and assist customers with mail related questions.

IT Assistant
Duties include: Assist with IT equipment management and documentation. Work with team to develop SharePoint applications and services. Support mission web conferences.
